In March, nationally recognized radio host and author of Spy Chips, Kathryn Albrecht, visited Austin to present testimony against forced mandatory RFID chipping of dogs in the city of San Marcos, Texas. (About 30 mins south of Austin). She gave a presentation to over 200 people at Brave New Books on her findings of the health risks associated with RFID chipping of animals and the overarching threat of this legislation leading to enforced chipping in humans in the near future.
The next day, she presented testimony to the San Marcos City Council and lead a protest of the legislation with about 200+ people outside of the city offices. Local and national media attention was brought to this controversial issue thanks to this event. I attended both events and took pictures and learned a lot in the process. Personally, I am happy to know that thanks to Kathryn’s efforts and the voices of the community, this legislation was not passed. As an animal lover, I would never want to feel “forced” to do anything that might put my furry babies at risk.
