Reimers Ranch County Park

This past weekend, my husband and I went for a drive to Pedernales State Park just outside of Austin. On our way there, we stopped at Bert and Ernies, this cool little hill country icehouse and mini-mart for some water. I started chatting with the owner while I was checking out who asked me if I was headed to Reimers Ranch or Hamilton Pool. Since I’m somewhat still new to Austin, I said “Huh? What’s what?” Being the constant adventurer, off we went to check them out and we never made it to Pedernales Park, our original destination.

Our first stop was Reimers Ranch County Park. Cost: $8 for a day pass. They allow pets on a leash too, which made us very happy since we had our two little doggies in tow. I was excited to find out they had a rock climbing canyon, which I use to do many moons ago and loved. We were told there was a great place to take pictures overlooking a valley and somehow ended up on some service road. We were quickly escorted out by a ranger who never did tell us where that valley was, but pointed us toward the river, which was an easy little hike from the main road.

As always, I took pictures along the way while my husband tried capturing some stock video footage. It was a beautiful and peaceful day on the river with only about 5 other people even on the beach. It was a perfect time to decompress and chill out.

I highly recommend visiting the park if you’re ever in the area. As for Hamilton Pool, well, they didn’t allow pets in the park at all, so that adventure will have to wait, much like Pedernales State Park. But we’ll get there one day…
