April 15th. The dreaded "tax day" for all Americans. This year's date came with tea parties across the nation organized by citizens who were fed up with Washington's outrageous spending, such as the bailout and stimulus packages.
For some, such as here in Austin, the tea parties lost a bit of their original flavor and intention. The idea of the parties was founded by the Ron Paul, Libertarian, and Independent community over a year ago, with next to zero media attention. The neo-conservatives here in Texas (and Fox News) saw the brilliance of the idea and ran with it.
On the plus side, this allowed for much more media attention than the parties had ever received in the past which helped bring droves of people out. Sadly, the core message was gravely lost and, at least in Austin, the event became a big "Don't Mess with Texas" rally with a huge side of pandering from the politicians to the upset republican community, with Rick Perry and Tina Benkiser at the front of the line.
Until the real issues of the federal reserve and the oligarchy elite is actually exposed and confronted, people will continue to buy into the false two-party paradigm and the media can continue to try to divide and conquer upset citizens and distract them with false "ideological" conflict.
I attended the event as an indy photographer and concerned citizen. I made my role there to help spread true information to those interested in it and, while people were yelling "don't mess with texas" I instead handed out educational DVDs on exposing the real problems: the federal reserve and ruling global elite.
Unlike other times I've done that, this time was incredibly refreshing. People in the crowd ARE genuinely frustrated and looking for information. So I literally handed out all my DVDs in minutes instead of hours, like the past. Now I just hope people will actually watch them. Then maybe we can get the real change I think everyone, right and left, agrees needs to happen, NOW.
